4 Months

Zander had his checkup today. I discussed his excessive spit-up problem with the Dr. and just as I suspected, he has reflux. He suggested a special type of formula that thickens when it mixes with their stomach acid so that it doesn’t come up as easily, so we are going to try that. It costs a little more but I figure it will even out if he keeps more of it down!

At 4 months Zander:
is 16 pounds, and that is
at the 60th percentile for weight.

is 26 inches, and that is
at the 75th percentile for height.

has a head circumference of 17 inches, and that is
at the 64th percentile for head circumference.

He only cried for a couple minutes after he got his shots and as you can see has been his usual happy self since! Which is much better than last time when he didn’t feel very good for the rest of the day.

Firsts

I can’t believe how fast Zander is growing up!! Here is what he has been up to this summer :)

August 14th, was the first time he rolled from his back to his belly, and I managed to catch this picture right after he rolled:

He has become quite the pro now at rolling on his belly ever since! I can’t remember when he rolled from his belly to his back first, but he was crazy young! He has only done it a couple of other times since.

Back in June, we walked in the Noridian 5k together which was his first 5k with me.

And here he is at the Potato Days 5k Craig did with him on August 27th:

Here he is dressed to go to his first wedding:

And just last week we had him try some rice cereal for the first time!! At first he didn’t understand how to eat from the spoon, but he eventually got the hang of it and seems to like it!

He is such a happy little guy all of the time and I just love all of his grins!

My crazy husband

Last Saturday night at 10:00, I was in bed. I know that may seem a little early for a weekend but not when you have a 3 month old! Now where was Craig at you ask? Oh, on his way out to run. I woke up at 2am with Zander and started to panic when he wasn’t in bed yet. So I got up and turned on the outside light – our signal for him to come in when he goes by. I waited a few minutes for him to get around the loop and he came right in. Turns out he was just finishing up the run anyways. He was running for 4 hours and ran a whole marathon!

The Sawtooth 100 is coming up again and I don’t have any less worry this year than I did last year. I am confident Craig is better prepared and will do better this year, but since I have to stay back to take care of Zander and the dogs, I will be worrying about him from home. Thankfully his sisters are going to be there for him so that helps ease my mind a little. But while I am at work all day on Friday, he will be running. When I go to bed on Friday night, he will be running. When I get up with Zander around 3am, he will be running. And when I get up for the day on Saturday, he will STILL be running. I will probably even have lunch on Saturday before he is done running. Sick, I know.

I’m afraid that whether he completes the race or not come September 10-11th, this won’t be the last of his crazy ultra marathoning. If he doesn’t complete it this year, then he will have to go back and try again. If he does, he will want to go on to his next challenge – something even crazier like the Arrowhead 135. I guess I am going to have to accept that he is going to continue to push the limits and he is going to have to accept that I am going to continue to worry about him despite how many of these he does!

Things are going great with Zander. He started sleeping about 7 hours at night, then goes right back to sleep after eating for another few hours. I went back to work a couple of weeks ago and Zander started daycare. Daycare has messed up his wonderful sleeping schedule a little bit, but hopefully we will get back into the swing of things once he adjusts to it all. It’s been very tough to be away from him so much, and to trust his care with someone I barely know. Yesterday when we picked him up from daycare he had THE biggest smiles for Craig and I so I know he is doing alright there but is also happy to see us still! I just can’t believe how much he is growing and all of the new things he is learning all the time! He has rolled over from front to back and back to front already, I have a feeling he is going to learn to crawl at a young age!

Well I am up way past my bedtime tonight and I am going to have a hard time staying awake at work tomorrow already, so I better end this thing.

Zander is here!

After much waiting, our perfect baby boy was born at 5:38 AM on May 12th. We went in on May 11th to get induced since I was a week overdue, but labor was really long and didn’t progress very quickly. Finally at about 4:00 AM it was time to push. Zander was what they call “Sunny-side up” or facing the wrong direction when he was born, so that played a part in how long I had to push, and also caused him to come out with a cone head! But after just a few hours his head was back to normal so you would never know it! It was a really long and painful night, puking all throughout my contractions, but it was all worth it in the end!
We are pretty sure he is the most perfect little man ever!

Craig is currently running the Fargo Marathon while Z and I hang out at home. I’m not too sure how well he will run it since he couldn’t have gotten much sleep last night changing poopy diapers at all hours of the night! He was supposed to run the Lake Wobegon Marathon last weekend, but we had just gotten home from the hospital on Friday night so he had to miss it this year.
*Update* Craig managed to finish in 3:24 so that’s great!

We just ordered a jogging stroller that also works as a pull-behind bike trailer. We won’t be able to jog with him for a while, but at least we can use this stroller for walking on the gravel road by the house.

I’m so happy my lil guy is finally here, and can’t imagine life without him!

Hiccup

I felt baby’s first hiccups last night! We installed the carseat last weekend and packed my bag for the hospital. I think everything is ready to go now! We just need to decide on a name yet.

Tomorrow it will be one week since we lost Mya. She got out of the fence and we haven’t been able to find her. I am very worried about her…and trying to keep my hopes up that she is okay. Even Kode and Olivia are acting strange, I can tell they miss her. We all really want her to come home…

Eight

That’s the number of weeks left until the much-anticipated arrival of baby Isakson! I hope it goes by fast! I really can’t wait to see what he looks like and hold him in my arms. My temperature has been rising more and more lately. It’s nice not to need much of a jacket outside, but I get way too warm while at work!

Craig has been trying to adjust to running in the mornings instead of the evenings to make it easier to work into our schedule after baby comes. I have had my worries about how he will accommodate his training schedule with a new baby, but he seems to be making the necessary changes, which I appreciate.

We have been keeping busy getting ready for baby. I like getting as much done as possible now rather than wait until the last minute. I had a baby shower a couple weeks ago and have another one this weekend that I am excited about! Next week we are taking a childbirth education class at the hospital that should be interesting. – I have a feeling it is going to scare me!

Some things I will never understand…

Like why my husband wants to spend 2 hours of his Sunday morning out in the freezing cold while it fiercely snows and blows – to run. I know running on a treadmill is boring, especially for 18 miles, but it was seriously cold out!

It’s hard to imagine how different our lives will be after this baby boy arrives. Going to Craig’s races will be more difficult, and we may not always be able to go to them. Like when Craig tries his hand at the Sawtooth 100 again this September. Baby and I will have to stay home and hope someone else can be there to crew for Craig. But I really look forward to cheering for Craig with our son at other races that are easier to attend! I am quite certain that this baby is going to be a great runner, just like his daddy. He is already a very active guy, from what we can tell in the ultrasounds and all of the kicking!

We are getting Baby’s room ready little by little. I’m currently on the hunt for a cheap dresser, but we did get it painted, the crib put together, and some decorations bought. I always get so anxious to meet the little guy when I go in his room.

We found out that Baby Isakson is going to have a new cousin this summer! My sister is pregnant with her first as well and is due just two months later. It will be great having a playmate for Baby so close in age and only 5 minutes away!

Today marks my 25th Birthday. I can’t help but feel a little old now. Not old-old…but old as in, I’m really truly a grown-up now. I bet this year will be the best year yet :)

Swoosh!

No, not like the Nike Swoosh. That’s how I describe the feeling I felt this morning that I believe to be my first time feeling the baby move!! Pretty exciting thing to happen at 5:00 AM.

Cravings these days? Yes. Nausea, mood swings, or other negative side effects? Not so much! 2nd Trimester is known as the Honeymoon stage, I can see why :)

Got a wonderful surprise yesterday in the form of a rocking/glider chair from my Dad & Lynette!! I’ve been wanting to get one before baby comes, and he surprised me with it yesterday! I love it! THANK YOU DAD!!!!!

50 Miles

I made it to the next aid station in time, but shortly after that I lost all cell service and wasn’t able to post any updates! Craig was looking pretty good and didn’t seem tired yet at the next couple aid stations. But when he still wasn’t at the 50 mile aid station by 8:30 I was starting to get worried. It was dark now and that just increased my worry. I had been rushing from AS to AS and there was no place to stop in between for food, so I was growing more hungry by the minute and was anxious for Craig to get there so I could go find something to eat. It was ridiculously cold and I was supposed to give Craig his jacket at this aid station but now that it was taking him longer I was worried about that too. Even with all of my layers on, I was freezing and decided to lay down in the back with the blankets. Everytime I heard people clapping I sat up in anticipation of it being Craig. Finally one of those bouncing headlamps in the trees turned out to be Craig and he came straight to the van to sit down. He said he had open sores on his feet and severe back pain. I tried my best to talk him into continuing, but he was only half-way done and the hardest part of the trail was coming up. I recruited help from one of the aid station workers to try to convince him to keep going, but even he agreed that Craig’s feet just were going to get much worse since he had already tried everything we could think of. Since Craig made it to that aid station at least it counts as an official 50 mile race still.

Many of the people I spoke with at the aid stations told me this is probably one of the worst 100 milers to do for your first time. I was confident Craig would beat the odds and make it all the way, but I know he will be back to finish it another year! I think we both learned some things for the next time around. I learned to bring a fold-up chair, more food, a winter jacket, and a hat/mittens. Yes, it really was that cold!

Olivia had a fun time on the trip and behaved really well for me. I don’t think there was one person that didn’t stop to tell me how pretty she is! It feels good to be home now and the other pups are happy to see us. I’m going to try my best to take good care of my beat-up husband today :)
